Channing Tatum wears the Bulova Hack watch in the new blockbuster Roland Emmerich movie, White House Down. The film stars Channing Tatum, Jamie Foxx, and Maggie Gyllenhaal, and premieres June 28th in the United States. Tatum’s character, Cale, is a Capitol policeman on a tour of the White House with his daughter when a heavily armed group of paramilitary invaders attack. Cale is forced to spring into action, armed only with his wits, his weapons, and a Bulova Hack watch timepiece.
The Bulova Hack watch has a distinguished military history, having first been used by the American army during WWII. Precision among troops was essential, and those on the battlefield needed a mechanism to synchronize their movements. The Hack watch was the first to offer a solution: a unique lock-down feature stopping the second hand entirely, allowing soldiers to synchronize their watches to the second. The term “hack” literally means stopping in order to synchronize.
This current model, as seen on Channing Tatum in White House Down, pays homage to the original Hack watches used in WWII, with ‘60s era military embellishments, a green strap, and luminous face.
